JULY
26, 2010 –-- I
mentioned in the last report our next 410 race
was at
Marysville
Raceway
Park
and that we had never been there before.
The
Golden State Series had not been there for
twelve years and as the saying goes, there is a
reason.
Pretty
nice facility, enthusiastic fans and a nicely
banked fast track but the surface was very
rocky (tough on bodywork and wings) and the biggest
ruts I’ve seen (rough on everything!).
In
spite of this and the 104 degree weather we had
a descent night so here is the story:
After
being the quickest in hot laps by two-tenths
Evan was the 17th car out to qualify
and wound up 2nd quick, not bad for a
drying surface. He transferred out of his heat
race and started the all-important Dash in the
back, 8th. Evan did a great job and
in just six laps raced his way to the 4th
position.
The
Main Event was a wreckfest (remember the ruts?)
but Evan was able to avoid the trouble and
brought it home in the 3rd
spot….the first podium finish in a while.
While loading the car in the trailer Evan
discovered the top of the left rear shock had
pulled right out of the shock body, the oil was
pumped-out… obviously something that slowed
the car down.
This
was the third race on the new A.R.T chassis and
it seems like Evan and Richard are very
comfortable with this new car as both are
finding it very responsive to input.
Golden
State
is off this week but we will be racing Friday
night in the Taco Bravo Series at beautiful
Ocean Speedway in
Watsonville
. Guaranteed no rocks, ruts or 104 degree
weather! Hope to see you there.
