JULY
5, 2010 –--The Chico 4th of July Golden State King of California race is always predictable. The weather is hot, the stands are full, the fireworks show is good and the racing is great.
This week, we had 22 cars and Evan was the sixteenth car out to qualify. The track was pretty dry to begin with and with the temperature pushing 100 and a strong dry wind it was going quickly. Richard Brown gave Ev a perfect car and even with the late draw he was able to qualify second, only the second car in the eleven’s.
Evan started his heat race fifth and finished in the fourth spot, enough to advance to the all-important Dash.
We did what we always do….pulled a bad pill for the dash and had to start seventh of eight cars. Four laps later the checkered flew and Evan ended in the sixth spot.
With having a good car starting sixth in the Main did not seem so bad. When Evan entered turn two of the second lap the hydraulic wing valve blew-out a seal and the power steering fluid quickly pumped into Evan’s lap and leaving him with out power steering for the remaining 28 laps.
If you read this site frequently you have noticed we have had mechanical problems at just about every race. Why would this race be any different?
Ev hung on and managed to finish sixth even with very oil soaked gloves, brake pedal and helmet visor.
This week we return to Santa Maria Speedway for round twenty of the GSC traveling series. Santa Maria is one of out favorite tracks and we are looking to get back on the podium….a place Evan has not been in quite a while.
The Suggs family would like to wish the best of luck to Zach Zimmerly and Jonathon Allard who are dropping off the GSC circuit to head back for the Midwest money races and the Knoxville Nationals. We are confident both teams will do well on the road and the series will miss them.
We hope to see everyone at Santa Maria and please drop by the trailer and say hello.
Hope you had a great holiday weekend and have a great week.
