10, 2010 –--This week was the 20th annual Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial race at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. The Bradway is not just another stop on the Golden State King of California traveling 410 series tour. Rather, it is a 40 lap tribute to the memory of the local star driver that seems to bring out additional cars as well as a little extra in everyone.
Evan was the tenth car out to qualify and he ended up fourteenth out of thirty six cars. We broke the side bell in the rear end while qualifying necessitating a rear end change before Evan’s heat race. Richard, Evan, Brian and Jeremy got the swap accomplished in plenty of time for the second heat where Evan finished fourth and transferring straight to the Main.
This field was stacked and with Shane Stewart, the reigning ASCS champion in town to complement the usual field of Allard, Larson, BK, Becker, Bud, Statler, and McMahon you knew it was going to be challenging night.
Evan started the feature fourteenth and on the first start he passed three cars, unfortunately that start was called back and the early advantage lost. Two aborted starts later the forty lap race was finally started single file. Ev raced well and managed to pass six cars and almost a seventh as Kyle Hirst just nipped Evan at the finish line. An eight place finish is never the goal but Evan drove well and we think we finally got a handle on the brake gremlin we have been fighting most of the season.
Evan’s undergraduate college career is rapidly coming to a close and graduation is just two weeks away. This Friday he has to present his senior engineering project, his alternative-fuel air scooter to his engineering professors so we will not be racing Friday night at Watsonville. We will however be at Tulare the following day for the next round of the Golden State Challenge Series. This is the annual Pombo Sergeant race and is always one of the fun events on the GSC tour.
Lastly, the Suggs family wants to thank the great Hoserville folks for their contribution to our racing effort. They are a collection of special people who have been fans, followers and contributors to the sprint car scene long before we got involved. We value the fact that they have chosen to “adopt” us. They are great friends who we truly appreciate.
We hope to see everyone Saturday at the Thunderbowl.
