APRIL
12, 2010 –-- This week we competed in the third race of the Golden State Challenge-King of California series at Tulare’s Thunder Bowl.
Uncharacteristically, we have had a few mechanical issues in this young season but this week it was not with the race car but with the race trailer.
About two hours into the four hour trip from Scotts Valley to Tulare we seized a wheel bearing on the trailer and had to make roadside repairs. Since we were fortunate enough to have a spare hub with us Evan and his dad made the swap and got back on the road in plenty of time to meet-up at the track with crew chief Richard Brown and mechanic Brian Poe.
The car was pretty good right out of the box and was the fastest car in hot laps. Unfortunately Evan had to go out last to qualify and was only able to time-in eleventh quick out of 22 cars….missing the dash for the first time this year.
Ev started and finished his heat race in second thus putting him in the sixth row of the A Main starting field.
Five laps into the feature the 33e had moved from eleventh to fourth but as the laps wore down Evan found himself in the sixth finishing spot, getting passed by series point leader Jonathon Allard on lap 29. Not where we expect to be but the season is early and Evan and Richard are definitely on the same page and better results are in the immediate future.
This Friday is going to be the first double race weekend for us since the season opening two-day Outlaw show at Tulare. The Taco Bravo 360 season opens at Watsonville’s Ocean Speedway Friday night and then round four of the traveling 410 GSC series moves to Petaluma the next night. Evan runs well at both locations so we are hopeful for excellent results at each track.
Ocean Speedway is really beautiful place and if you have not been there for a Taco Bravo race you should make it a priority. This series is ultra competitive and always draws a full field of entries. Don’t leave your coat at home!
Well, that’s a wrap for this week and as usual we appreciate your taking the time to check in.
Hope to see you at the races and please make sure to drop by the trailer and say hello.
Lastly, we want to thank “Carwash” Mike Avilla for his recent sponsorship. Mike is a charter member of the Hoserville clan and his help and encouragement are appreciated!
