MARCH
28, 2010 –-- This week's race was held at Placerville's high-banked racy quarter mile,
the first of the season for the Golden State King of California 410 series.
This being number one of twenty-five we were hoping to get the season off to
a great start. As it turned out Evan was fast but a broken Jacobs ladder on
the first lap of the A Main causing him to fight an extremely ill-handling
race car for 29 laps, ultimately finishing tenth. This was a big
disappointment when you had car capable of running up-front.
The unfortunate story: There were 22 cars signed in and Evan was the 14th
car to qualify. At the time he qualified Evan was 3rd quick but as the track
dried and by the time all 22 cars had qualified, he slipped to 7th.
Evan started his heat on the outside of the front row and won it going away.
The car was near perfect and the heat win put Ev in the 5 lap Dash where he
started 5th and finished fourth. A second row starting spot for the Main
sounded good but on the first lap of the feature the pin holding the ladder
to the birdcage pulled out turning the once promising evening into one of
just hanging on and hoping for the best. With no open red there was no opportunity to replace the ladder and that was
that!
This week we do double duty as Evan will race Friday night at Watsonville's
Ocean Speedway. This event will be the first of the 15 race Taco Bravo 360
winged series. This is a well attended and very competitive series and
incredibly good for us since it is only 20 minutes from home!
Saturday night will be round two of the GSC 410 series and we make our first
trip of the year to the rough-hewed Antioch Speedway. The facility does not
compare to Ocean but the racing there is typically good.
Evan is out of school this week on spring break and has plenty of time to
service the 410 car and handle the last minute details on the 360 machine.
Take a look at the new team picture posted this week. From L to R, Evan;
mechanic and old friend, Brian Poe; professional crew chief and great guy,
Richard Brown and Evan's dad, John.
As always, thanks for checking in and stop by the trailer to say hello when
at the races.
Have a great week and Happy Easter
