OCTOBER
1, 2009 –-- The Northern California racing season is winding down and since Evan’s time is becoming more occupied with college we will be missing a couple of the annual year-end events, specifically Chico’s Fall Nationals and the famous Trophy Cup in Tulare.
We did race at Watsonville’s Ocean Speedway last week and we will be there again on October 9th and 16th, the last two races for this years GLR Investments series.
Presently Evan sits in third place in points at Watsonville behind Brent Kaeding and Tommy Tarlton and if he is to gain any ground on either, with only three races to go, a good run was needed.
Saturday was a combined GLR and Civil War race and the pits were full of cars, 41 in fact. The pill-draw gave us the 34th qualifying spot which normally would have been an issue but on this night the track seemed to hold up real well. Sean Becker went out just prior to Evan and he was quick-time so it appeared there was still a good opportunity for a competitive qualifying attempt. Sure enough Evan was faster with an 11:6 putting him at the top of the board but that was only to last thru two more qualifiers when Mike Henry bumped us and took the “pole”.
Evan started sixth in his heat and needing to finish 4th or better to transfer directly top the Main Event. This is normally difficult to do with the Civil War format and it is not unusual for many of the quick cars to find themselves in the B Main after not transferring. When the checkered waived on the ten lap heat race Evan was third.
The zero pill was drawn for the starting line-up for the feature which meant Evan would be starting off-pole. Thirty laps later Evan finished the race where he started, finishing second to the pole sitter, Henry.
It was a good night for sure. Evan has not yet won this year but this marked his fourth 2nd place finish of the season
This week we are off and Evan will be preparing for two college mid-term exams but a little time will be found to prep the car for Watsonville on the 9th, the second to last event for us of the year.
Thanks for checking in and we hope to see you at the races. Please drop by the trailer and say hi.
