AUGUST
24, 2009 –-- This week we were at Placerville Speedway for the Golden State King of California Series. This was the 2009 season finale for the traveling 410 winged series.
Placerville (one of our favorite tracks) is a high-banked, small quarter mile, sticky red-clayed “speed-dome” where the thrills are nonstop.
Evan was the second car of 26 to go out to qualify and the track was real greasy. In spite of that he remained quick-time until the 10th car qualified and slowly but progressively slipped off “the board” as the track gained bite. He ended up qualifying 12th, the last position still in the invert but far from making the dash which consists of the quickest eight cars.
Evan started on the pole of his heat race and finished second. Since only one of the fastest eight cars did not transfer out of their heat this meant he would start the A main 11th.
The main event was wild and woolly and was really a race of attrition. Evan managed to evade the carnage and came home in 7th place, not a top five but passing was at a minimum.
Evan finished the GSC season points in fourth place behind Tyler Walker, Jonathon Allard and Brent Kaeding. As Evan states “with the top three being who they are I don’t know how I can improve on fourth at this point”.
The GSC series is like a family and everyone gets along and after the season finale no one is in a hurry to leave the pits and head home. It’s nice to be part of this group and we are already talking about the 2010 season!
This Saturday is the 49th running of the annual Johnny Key Memorial 50 lapper at Watsonville’s Ocean speedway. This is a historical 360 winged race where the first 14 cars are pre-qualified based on this year’s performance in the GLR Series; fortunately, we are one of the fourteen. This years running should fill the grandstands as well as the pits and hopefully is a “not to miss” on your racing calendar.
Suggs Racing wishes to congratulate Tyler Walker and the rest of the 24 car team on their GSC championship run. The 14th finisher in this years Knoxville A Main is really something to watch and far and away the fan favorite with his extreme on-the-gas style.
Hope to see you at the “Key”
Suggs Family Racing.
