Suggs Sets New Track Record At Ocean

AUGUST 18, 2009 –-- This week we raced at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville. This was the last of the GLR Investments winged 360 shows prior to the annual running of the 50 lap Johnny Key Memorial.

There were 26 cars on hand and Evan went out 3rd to qualify. The track was good and he qualified first with an 11.692, good enough for a new track record for 360 sprint cars.

Evan started his heat race in the 4th spot and finished 2nd.

There is no dash at Ocean and they determine the starting line-up for the main by pea pill draw. As usual, we drew the 10 pill, the highest number in the bag! I believe this was the third time this year Evan was rewarded for his fast-time effort by starting 10th in the feature.

After 30 laps Evan was able to salvage an 8th place finish. There was not much passing and gaining two spots was about as good as could be expected. Oh well, perhaps we are saving our good luck for the Key.

Speaking of the Johnny Key, which is set to go on the 29th of the month Evan is one of the 14 seeded drivers and remaining cars will have to fight their way in on race day. We look forward to the annual running of this fabled event, California’s oldest dirt track race.

There was no GSC King of California race this week because of the Knoxville Nationals but we resume this Saturday at Placerville for the last Golden State race of the season. Evan runs well there and shares the track record with Tim Kaeding. Although sitting 4th in GSC points Evan has not won yet this year……….hopefully this will be the week.

As always thanks for checking in and following our season. The Suggs family hopes to see you at the races.

Have a great week.
