Weekly Report - Cottage Grove

JUNE 17, 2009 –--Last weekend was to be a Golden State Challenge road trip double header in Oregon but again, Mother Nature changed things up a bit.

Saturday night was to be our first GSC race at Medford’s Southern Oregon Speedway in two years but at about six PM and just as hot laps was ending it started to rain heavily. This was not a surprise because it was predicted (and right on time!) so, with the race cancelled it was a mad scramble to load the trailer (a soggy-muddy mess) and get the heck out of there. If you know our stuff you know we have a 24 foot trailer and a dually and getting out of the pits, that were quickly becoming a quagmire, was not too challenging. That can not be said for the toterhome and semi-truck folks who quickly sunk in to the mud and were stuck pending the arrival of a bulldozer to pull them out. Anyway, back to the motel for a good nights rest and then the 120 mile drive north to Cottage Grove for Monday nights race. We have never been to Cottage Grove before and really found the old place to be awesome. Nice track, great crowd and super fans……I hope GS puts it on the calendar for next year.

There were 22 cars this week including drop-in Sammy Swindell. Evan went out to qualify at the end and timed in 15th, not what we had in mind. We missed the invert and started our heat 5th and ended there. Starting 15th in the 30 lap main was not looking promising especially since we were not very fast but at the end of the race and having made the correct changes Evan was running 7th and almost nipped Kyle Hurst at the stripe for 6th.

The finishing order was: BK, Sammy, Roger Crockett, Bud Kaeding, Tyler Walker, Hurst, Evan, Brandon Carey, Jon Allard and, I think, Wayne Johnson for 10th. A tough crowd but we thought we could have done better.

Anyway, while many of the teams traveled on to Skagit Washington’s Dirt Cup we headed home. Work commitments nixed us for this year so we will ACTUALLY be home for the Father’s Day weekend without a race! This is the first one at home in years.

We will return to Watsonville on the 26th for another GLR 360 Series race and then on to Tulare the following day for another of the GSC 410 races.

Thanks for checking in and have a great Father’s Day.

See you at the races……..
