Watsonville / Petaluma Weekend Recap

APRIL 20, 2009 –-- This past weekend was another doubleheader, one 360 race and one 410 show. Friday night was round two of the GLR Investments Ocean Speedway 360 Winged Series in the beautiful Watsonville countryside.

Twenty-seven cars were present and Evan was the fast qualifier, transferred out of his heat. His Mom rewarded his effort by drawing the 10 pill for the feature inversion! While everyone on the crew was complaining that the pill cup contained a number as high as 10, Evan and Brian quickly started on adjustments, got the racecar pushed off, and took his place in the tenth starting position.

Thirty laps later Evan had worked his way to 4th by the time the checkered flew. The track was pretty good so some passing was available; the only problem were the cars in the first three positions ahead of Evan…. none other than Jason Statler, Bud Kaeding and BK.

Suggs Racing wishes to congratulate Jason and his longtime mechanic, Mark Bristow on their first place finish

Saturday morning came early and the 360 car came out of the trailer and after three hours of cleaning and replenishing supplies, the 410 was loaded and the two hour trip to Petaluma began.

This was our first of two trips to Petaluma this year and the 4th stop on the Golden State Challenge Tour. There were 20 cars present and Even went out 14th to qualify and timed-in 7th which put him in the Dash.

Brian Poe, friend and longtime crew member drew the pill for the starting position for the dash. Brian broke the “pill draw jinx” by pulling the ONE! The benefit of starting on the pole did not last long as contact with the wall took out the torque tube and the ladder. Back in the pits temporary repairs were quickly made with the great help of Bill “BF” Foland, Ashley Smith and “The Whiz”, Jonathan Allard. Starting 8th in the main and a racecar seriously out of adjustment Evan was able to bring it home in the 9th spot. Coulda been worse.

Congratulations to Tyler Walker and the entire 24 crew for their victory.

This week we only have a single date as the GSC moves to Watsonville’s Ocean Speedway, a beautiful place and easily the closest track to home. Ocean Speedway is a beautiful place and a good spot to watch the races. It can get chilly there so bring a coat!

Please drop by the trailer after the races……just look for the smallest one!
