APRIL 5, 2009 –-- This week we had a double header; Friday night was the season opener for the GLR Investments 360 Series at Watsonville’s beautiful Ocean Speedway. There were 27 cars present and Evan went out 18th, ultimately qualifying 3rd. Starting and finishing 4th in the heat race guaranteed a spot in the Main. The Main Event, scheduled to go 30 laps and called after 22 because of the 11 p.m. curfew, found Evan in 4th place, finishing after Brent Kaeding, Jason Statler and Bud Kaeding. After visiting with a few local friends, (Watsonville being the closest track to our Scotts Valley home) it was back to the house to get some sleep, load the 410 equipment and make the two hour drive to Antioch for the second round of the Golden State Challenge Series.

For the new season, Antioch has been slightly enlarged and more greatly banked. There were 27 GSC 410 cars present and Evan was 15th out to qualify on the rapidly deteriorating track and timed-in 7th. He ran third in his heat and 6th in the dash. Starting 6th in the A feature Evan got bottlenecked in turn two of the first lap and killed the engine while trying to avoid jumping the rear wheel of the veteran Jason Statler.

Restarting in the rear in 22nd position Evan was able to work his way back to a disappointing but reasonable 13th at the end of 30. 

The top four were none other than Tyler Walker, Jonathon Allard, Tim Kaeding and Brent Kaeding…. It’s a tough crowd out there!

Next week we are off to the famous Thunder Bowl of Tulare for Golden State Challenge race number three. The GSC will be supported by the Bandit 360 wingless cars. It will be great to see some old friends from a very cool series and where we started six years ago

Real Ralph, a noted freehand pinstriper, has completed the artwork for Evan’s T shirts and we should have them available in a race or two. They will be unique and CHEAP so if you are a race-shirt collector these will be a must-have.
